The Five Pillars of Benedict Medicine
The Benedict Medicine Consortium promotes the following five pillars to support the integration of Catholic Social Teaching in primary care:
1 |
A Catholic healthcare response puts human dignity at the center of its work without compromise.
|
2 |
It responds to the needs of the poor and is offered and open to all, regardless of socioeconomic status, race, religion, or creed.
|
3 |
It is rooted in a local call to service within the community, in accordance with the principle of subsidiarity.
|
4 |
Because of its conviction to the Gospel, a truly medical witness remains independent of the influences of public or corporate payers which can hold sway over the way it carries out its mission of evangelization and healing.
|
5 |
Practices which adhere to Catholic principles are good stewards of financial resources and human talents, and they use these God-given gifts to enhance the care of those whom they serve.
